Yemen government secures military camps from STC

(MENAFN) The governor of Yemen’s eastern province of Hadhramaut said Monday that government forces have regained control of military camps previously held by the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Salem al-Khanbashi said the operation “was carried out smoothly and with a high national spirit, through coordination among various military and security units,” praising political leadership for supporting local authorities in securing the province and maintaining stability.

Government forces reclaimed full control of Hadhramaut and al-Mahra, regions covering nearly half of Yemen and bordering Saudi Arabia, after the STC captured them last month. Saudi Arabia last week accused the UAE of urging STC forces to conduct military operations along its southern border, a charge Abu Dhabi denied.

The STC maintains that southern regions have been politically and economically marginalized and advocates for secession, while Yemeni authorities reject this claim and reaffirm their commitment to national unity.
