Trump government expands federal presence in Minnesota amid fraud claims

(MENAFN) The Trump administration has moved to significantly increase the number of federal law enforcement personnel in Minnesota, sending roughly 2,000 agents as immigration operations are broadened in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, according to reports citing officials familiar with the matter.

As stated by reports, the deployment includes officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Border Patrol, with a senior commander from U.S. Customs and Border Protection also expected to be on the ground in Minneapolis. Officials indicated that the reinforced presence has already begun.

Responding to inquiries, a senior Homeland Security official emphasized that details about operational scale would not be disclosed, adding: “While for the safety of our officers we do not get into law enforcement footprint, DHS (Department of Homeland Security) has surged law enforcement and has already made more than 1,000 arrests of murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and gang members.”

The escalation follows renewed controversy that erupted late last month after a widely shared online video alleged misconduct at child care centers run by members of Minnesota’s Somali community. State authorities later pushed back against those accusations, saying inspections showed the facilities were operating in compliance with regulations.

The situation has since heightened political friction and revived harsh rhetoric from President Donald Trump directed at Minnesota’s Somali population. Civil rights advocates have warned that the renewed focus risks fueling fear and unfairly targeting an entire community.

“Each time, the same pattern emerges: isolate a case, generalize it to an entire group, and use fear to legitimize discrimination,” said Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Minnesota chapter.
