Diplomacy Remains Trump’s “First Option”

(MENAFN) The White House stated on Wednesday that diplomacy is US President Donald Trump’s "first option" when it comes to negotiations with Iran, while acknowledging that he is "talking to many people" regarding possible military actions.

Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt highlighted that there are "many reasons and arguments that one could make for a strike against Iran," referencing attacks ordered by the president in June on nuclear facilities, which the administration claims "totally obliterated" Iran's nuclear program.

Leavitt emphasized, "The President has always been very clear, though, with respect to Iran or any country around the world, diplomacy is always his first option, and Iran would be very wise to make a deal with President Trump and with this administration. He's talking to many people, of course, his national security team first and foremost," addressing reporters on the matter.

When asked whether Trump is coordinating with Israel regarding potential strikes on Iran, Leavitt chose not to provide details, stating, "I don't have any specifics on the president's recent conversations with Israel."

Leavitt was also questioned about whether Iran has been given a timeline to reach an agreement. She called it a "fair question," but refused to "set deadlines on behalf of the President of the United States."

These remarks follow the conclusion of the second round of indirect negotiations between the US and Iran, mediated by Oman. Both nations recognized progress, even as American military presence in the region continues to increase.
