EU Urges Israel to End Lebanon Escalation, Reaffirms Support for Diplomacy

(MENAFN) The European Union on Monday appealed to Israel to cease its ongoing military operations in Lebanon and uphold the country's sovereignty, while emphasizing the importance of diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing regional tensions.

According to reports, an EU spokesperson stressed the need for Israel to halt its military activities in Lebanon and respect the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We call on Israel to stop its military escalation in Lebanon and to respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni told a media briefing.

The spokesperson also highlighted the significance of sustained diplomatic efforts spearheaded by the United States and other international actors to secure a negotiated solution that could pave the way for lasting stability in the region.

“The people of Lebanon have already endured immense hardship. They didn't choose this war, and this war is not theirs,” he said.

According to reports, the EU official further noted that civilians in both Lebanon and Israel deserve to live in peace, safety, and dignity without the risk of another round of conflict.

El Anouni added that people in both Lebanon and Israel have the right to live in peace, security, and dignity, free from the threat of renewed conflict.

The European Union also reaffirmed its solidarity with the Lebanese population, stating that it will continue providing assistance and emergency support to help Lebanese authorities address the ongoing challenges caused by the crisis.
