Citrus County Seeks Public Input on Official Naming of West Citrus Government Center
CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2026) — Citrus County invites residents to provide naming suggestions for the West Citrus Government Center, located at 1500 N. Meadowcrest Boulevard in Crystal River.
The County purchased the property in 2014 to provide office space for Citrus County Constitutional Offices. Former County Commissioner, Dennis Domato, advocated for this purchase to create a center that would better serve citizens in the area.
On September 8, 2026, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners directed staff to begin the county’s formal naming process for the building. The name “Dennis Damato Government Building” has been proposed for consideration to honor the former Commissioner who passed away in 2022 after battling cancer.
Public naming suggestions will be accepted through an online form beginning September 16 and closing at 5:00 p.m. on September 23, 2026.

How the Naming Process Works
Under the county's naming policy, the Naming Committee will consider the property's geographic location, any historical significance, and, when an individual is proposed, the person's contributions to Citrus County. The name of a living person may not be considered.
A deceased individual proposed for consideration must have positively influenced Citrus County. This may be evidenced through significant community involvement, civic participation, charitable work, prior donation of real or tangible property or funds to the County, or a combination thereof.
After the submission period closes, the Naming Committee will review the public suggestions and make a recommendation to the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners. Final authority to name the facility rests with the Board.
