SIU to provide an update on the investigation into the transfer of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s vacant land to private hands
The Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Mr Leonard Lekgetho, will hold a media briefing on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, to provide an update and release the final report on allegations of a fraudulent transfer of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s vacant land to private hands.
President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the investigation under Proclamation 195 of 2024, directing the SIU to investigate allegations of serious maladministration related to the transfer of stands owned by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in Villa Liza township, Boksburg.
The investigation aimed to determine whether the transfers violated the Municipality’s legislation, guidelines, or practices, and whether employees or officials engaged in unlawful conduct to benefit themselves or others. It also sought to identify any fraudulent conduct, its causes, and any losses or damages suffered by the Municipality or the State, as well as any irregular conduct by employees or officials.
The release of the investigation report marks a key milestone in the SIU’s work and underscores the Unit’s commitment to transparency, accountability and keeping the public informed about the outcomes of its investigations.
