Government seeks partner to develop aviation centre of excellence – Min Indar

The government is seeking an international partner to help develop and operate an Aviation Centre of Excellence in Guyana, as efforts continue to expand the country’s aviation sector and create opportunities for young Guyanese to pursue careers in the industry.

Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar said the facility is expected to train pilots and other aviation professionals, including engineers responsible for maintaining aircraft engines, propellers and airframes.

“We need pilots; we don’t have enough…We are going to create our own professionals right here. We are working with different partners to come to help us build out and operate,” Minister Indar said in a recent interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

The government intends to build local capacity by producing aviation professionals in Guyana, while working with international partners to ensure the institution meets recognised standards.

Minister Indar further noted that the government has already allocated $100 million in this year’s National Budget to kickstart development of the initiative, but stressed that a suitable international partner is still needed to help establish and operate the facility.

The initiative is part of the government’s wider efforts to strengthen Guyana’s aviation infrastructure, regulatory capacity and human resources as the sector continues to expand.

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali had previously announced that Guyana is ready to partner with international stakeholders to establish an internationally accredited aviation educational institution to train the next generation of aviation professionals across the sector.

The president also emphasised the importance of partnerships and technical collaboration in modernising Guyana’s aviation regulatory framework and positioning the sector for further development.
